Hey guys, Hocks here! I posted last week about NaNoWriMo, but I didn’t include too much about the novel I’m working on. I found this tag and thought this would be a great way to give more details about my novel! I was not tagged for this. I found it on Ariana’s blog, Ariana’s Archives.

TELL ME ABOUT YOUR NANOWRIMO PROJECT THIS YEAR! GIVE ME A BLURB!
(This is definitely subject to change since my story isn’t fully planned, but right now it’s where my head/plan is.)
Drakalyn has enough to worry about. It’s senior year, she has no idea what she wants to do with her life except to get out of her boring close-knit town, and her best friend wants to be “something more”. With ten days to her 18th birthday, Drakalyn has plenty to wish for, but a wish to find out she’s the daughter of a dragon, is capable of shifting between a dragon and human form, and is next in line to rule was not among those wishes. Now she must make a choice. Either return to her homeland and embrace her dragon blood, or live out a normal life among the humans and pretend that dragons don’t actually exist.
But Drakalyn doesn’t actually get much say in the matter. When more secrets about her and her past are revealed, both humans and dragons will do anything to have her for themselves. Drakalyn has until she’s 18 to make a decision, or ruin the chances of having everything taken from her- including, possibly, her life.
WHAT’S THE GENRE?
Fantasy.
DESCRIBE YOUR MC IN THREE WORDS.
Headstrong. Introvert. Outcast.
WITHOUT SPOILERS, DESCRIBE YOUR VILLAIN IN THREE WORDS.
Is there one? (That took awhile to come up with…it makes sense with my story, I promise!)
WHAT IS YOUR GOAL? (THE TRADITIONAL 50K? 20K? 5K? OR……. 100K?)
50,000 words for NaNoWriMo, but really just until the draft is complete.
IS THIS YOUR FIRST DRAFT? SECOND? THIRD?
First draft…well, kinda…I did a half-ish draft in 2015, but I am not incorporating it into this one.
ARE YOU STARTING A NEW PROJECT (OR DRAFT), OR CONTINUING AN EXISTING ONE?
This is a new draft. However, I originally gave this idea a try for NaNo in 2015.
WHAT IS YOUR FAVORITE TIME TO WRITE IN THE DAY?
Night time/late evening.
WHERE ARE YOU GOING TO WRITE?
Anywhere I get the chance. Probably just at home in my bedroom.
COMPUTER OR PAPER?
Computer. I love writing on paper, but a novel length work is difficult to read and edit written out.
NANOWRIMO IS A HUGE COMMITMENT!! HOW ARE YOU GOING TO MAKE TIME TO WRITE?
Honestly, I have nothing else going on right now. (Besides finishing Breath of the Wild.) I’m between that graduating college and looking for a job stage, so…I’ve got time.
ARE YOU GOING TO PARTICIPATE IN LOCAL OR ONLINE NANOWRIMO EVENTS? (E.G. KICK-OFF PARTIES IN YOUR CITY, WRITE-INS, VIRTUAL WRITING SPRINTS…)
I’m not able to attend in-person events right now, but I have an online group that I love doing word wars with.
DO YOU WRITE FROM BEGINNING TO END OR SKIP AROUND?
Beginning to end. I find it impossible to skip around while writing.
PLANNER OR PANTSER? (OR PLANTSER?)
Forever a pantser. I love having that freedom to just sit and write. However, this year I’m actually taking the plantser route. For the first time I have plot points and character details (minimally) planned.
WHAT WILL BE YOUR GO-TO NANOWRIMO SNACK?
Honestly, I don’t really snack on much throughout the day. Maybe some chocolate every now and then, but that’s about it
CHOICE OF CAFFEINE? (OR NO CAFFEINE?)
Sweet tea. Or ANY KIND of mocha or vanilla coffee. But my go-to will probably just be regular old milk since I rarely have coffee at home.
ANY REWARDS FOR MILESTONE ACHIEVEMENTS? FOR FINISHING NANOWRIMO?
Nope. Just in it for trying to finish this novel idea.
SHARE A TIP FOR OTHER NANO-ERS!
Make a writer friend. Join the writing community. You may think that writing is a solo activity, but IT IS NOT. Writing is so much more fun and easier when you have a friend/group to share ideas with, do word sprints with, or to encourage each other. It doesn’t matter what you write or where you are in your life or writing journey, there are people that will gladly support you. This is coming from someone who has been writing for years and refused to talk about her writing to anyone up until earlier this year. I found that community this year, and it’s one of the best decisions I’ve ever made.
HOW ARE YOU FEELING ABOUT NANOWRIMO? (EXCITED?! NERVOUS!? TERRIFIED?!)
I’m excited!! Due to variables I couldn’t exactly control, I was unable to win or get very far in my novels the last couple of years, so I’m a bit nervous at how this year will turn out. But I’m super excited to get this idea out on paper, and to see my friends’ progress this month!
